America may be ahead in plenty of things, but an area ripe for improvement is family-friendly lodging (and dining!) here in the states. Across the pond in Europe, hoteliers have been perfecting what they call “family hotels” for decades. These accommodations, which are often found in the mountain regions of countries like Italy and Austria, have been designed specifically with families in mind. Not only do they offer childcare, playgrounds, children’s menus, and baby gear rentals, they also offer sleek and sophisticated amenities geared toward adults. Think: fantastic spas, incredible balcony views and extensive wine selections.
While the average American family might consider a vacation to Paris or a trip to Rome, parents often overlook the incredible appeal of these more remote family hotels. In a perfect world, folks in the U.S. might plan a two-week vacation that incorporates time spent in the city with travel to a family hotel within a few hours distance, for a week of rest and relaxation before heading home. If you’re looking to stretch beyond the comfort of domestic adventure, and see for yourself what the Europeans have been doing right for so long, this is the perfect way to do so.
To provide some inspiration, we’re linking our top 10 favorite family hotels in Europe, all of which could be found in the Kid-Friendly Stays Travel Directory. Have you been to a European family hotel? We would love to hear your story; reply to this email and share your experience!
