If you missed the entertaining renovation of this retro, seaside motel on Netflix’s “Motel Makeover,” no worries. You can catch up in real life by booking a room. Just a couple of blocks from the second largest stretch of freshwater beach in the world, you’ll find The June Motel, in all of its mid-century modern glory.
Check in at the lobby, where you’ll be handed a welcome drink and kids can raid the gameboard cabinet to borrow one or two. (We snagged coloring books and crayons for our little ones.) Then, walk through the double doors to find communal fire pits – lit up with s’more fixings each evening – and the refreshing motel pool. Beside it all is Heydeys, a chic diner that serves an upscale menu inside, outside, or via takeout. With our toddler and four year old, we grabbed takeout and dined on our balcony while listening to live music from the pool stage. A grassy area is perfect for getting out wiggles and shuffleboard and cornhole are also set up for hanging in the yard.
