Now this is the stuff that dreams are made of. An enchanted fairy-tale themed guestroom overlooking Hong Kong, complete with sleep-in magical carriage, slide, tea set and dress-up costumes? An airship voyage bunk room, with a working propeller, steering wheel and tunnel that connects to mom and dad’s room?
These magical luxury suites are just two examples of the family-friendly overhaul that transformed Island Shangri-La‘s 45th floor. Every detail – and we mean every detail – has been considered in this redesign. Including the first steps you’ll take when exiting the elevator onto the family floor, the lobby of which has been modeled after a Hong Kong train station, complete with a moving model train.
Down themed corridors, guests will find 21 ultra-luxe suites that offer city or harbor views, in addition to a common living space designed exclusively for traveling families and “The Pantry,” which is stocked with all the appliances that support traveling with little ones. (Think bottle sterilizer, washing machine and infant tub.) Near the pool on a separate floor, a child-focused water play area has also been unveiled, featuring a toddler pool and splash park with water tunnel, LED lights and interactive features. Guests on the 45th floor receive a pool bag with extra supplies like pool toys and swimming diapers.
But, let’s get onto these suites. I mean, wowza. Ten themes – from a timber treehouse to a space station – are available in one-, two- or three-bedroom arrangements and include we’re-parents-we-get-it touches like toddler-safe beds, kid-friendly furnishings and decor that incorporates the region’s stunning landscape and culture.
Our favorite? It’s nearly impossible to choose, but we’re eyeing Hong Kong Wonders with its single deck bed and rope walkway that nod to Hong Kong’s maritime heritage. Kerosene-style lanterns and a sampan-shaped rocking chair help anchor (no pun intended – ha) the look.
