If you’re traveling to Maine between the months of Maine and October, consider a stay in a high-end tent at the Acadia outpost of Under Canvas. Glamping redefined, this 100-acre waterfront property offers dozens of canvas tents fitted with wood-fire stoves and high quality amenities. Each tent includes a cozy bed, private bathroom, and seating area. Family-friendly programming, like scavenger hunts, guided hikes and yoga are available.
For families, tent suites with pull-out sofas, separate teepee-style kids sleeping tents, and connecting tents are available to sleep groups up to seven. A tented lobby serving food and drinks in within a short walk, as are several bonfires, yard games and a rocky swath of Atlantic Ocean beach. Acadia National Park is a half-hour drive away.
Our personal stay, which earned the property Kid-Friendly Stays Approval, included our toddler. And while we loved the experience, I’d say that it’s best for older kids and teens, who will enjoy the camp activities and also appreciate the privacy of their own, separate teepee.
